Eating is a political act, but in the way the ancient Greeks used the word ‘political’—not just to mean having to do with voting in an election, but to mean ‘of, or pertaining to, all our interactions with other people’—from the family to the school, to the neighborhood, the nation, and the world. Every single choice we make about food matters, at every level. The right choice saves the world.”

WHO WE ARE

The SAFS Society is a student club formed under the TCSA at Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario in 2014.  In partnership with the  Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems program, the society is a community for All Trent Students to come together and share interest in sustainable agriculture and food.

Our mission

The SAFS Society is founded on the concept of food sovereignty .  We believe farmers can feed our growing population while sustaining and regenerating the ecological resource base and  succeeding economically.  We believe in truly democratic and equitable food systems, locally, regionally and globally, maintaining that quality, healthful and culturally appropriate food is a basic human right.  Our mission is to create a community for Trent students to share, experience, and learn, deepening their sustainable food understanding.

How you can  get involved
